Jarrett Bay Boatworks joins forces with the Atlantic Veneer Mill Outlet to emphasize the importance and viability of the boat building industry in yearly Carteret County Competition
The North Carolina Boat Building Heritage Foundation today announced the creation of the Jarrett Bay Boatworks Challenge Award for Excellence in Craftsmanship. The new category award comes with a $500.00 cash award given to the best overall quality boat built during the 9th Annual AV Mill Outlet Beaufort National Boat Building Challenge held on Saturday, May 7, 2016, on the Beaufort Waterfront.
Atlantic Veneer Corporation‘s Jack King, Event Coordinator and Lead Event Sponsor, proudly announced the partnership with Jarrett Bay Boatworks, a premier builder of custom sportfishing boats in Carteret County since 1986 saying, “This award will change the dynamics of our competitive build. The Jarrett Bay Boatworks brand is synonymous with quality and craftsmanship and lending their brand recognition to our boatbuilding challenge naturally elevates our process. Without personal and corporate sponsorships, our foundation’s mission to preserve and invest in our community’s boat building heritage becomes more difficult. Randy Ramsey, President, and Tate Lawrence, Vice President of Operations recognize the importance of investing in our community. Their vision for our industry’s future viability can now be shared through their kindness and support for our event.”
The event starts by cannon fire at 11:00 AM. as teams of two get four hours and just enough material to build a 12′ Carolina Bateau. The boats are judged on speed of construction, finish quality and a rowing race. The event features teams from across North Carolina, community colleges, local high schools and young builders of middle school age working with local professionals. This is a family event which is free and open to all.
