Good Afternoon Everyone,
Hurricane Irene is now at 105mph and still headed at us at 14 mph. It is less than 300 miles south and we should feel tropical force winds approximately 2-3am tomorrow morning. Hurricane force winds will impact our area at daylight or shortly there after. Floyd and Isabelle were at 105 when they hit us and flooding was the major issue with storm surge and very heavy rains.
Things started a little slow this morning but have heated up significantly down at the basin.
We have hauled 130 vessels since Tuesday and have 9 more today. We hauled most of the day on Monday as well on vessels previously schedule for maintenance so we will be very close to 150 for the week. We have plenty more room and a little more time but we are very low on stands and blocking. We will hot wash this evolution in the coming weeks and make changes to our plans for next season. I hope we wont have to do this again this year but we will be ready.
Many of you may note that we have hauled a number of vessels that did not have contracts. Many transients were caught in the area and had to evacuate the marinas and docks so we had to help everyone we could. We charged them for contracts so it would be fair to those of you that prepared for the season and once we maximized contracts we hauled a number of vessels that paid double the normal fee. That will be a learning experience for not being prepared.
I wish we could have done more since we had to turn down several dozen boaters but I will bet that they will have a plan and be better prepared next year. I assure you that we learn from every event and we have learned. We really appreciate everyone of you all and thank you for be patient and very helpful during a very hectic event. I highly recommend that you do not try to come out tomorrow at all and Sunday should be much better to come out and check on your vessels after the storm is safely north of us. BE AWARE THAT THERE MAY BE TREES AND POWER LINES DOWN SO BEST TO STAY PUT FOR A FEW DAYS.
