News14 Carolina Report
A Beaufort business is raising money to build a Habitat for Humanity house in memory of an employee.
About 250 people got a barbecue lunch from a Beaufort company Wednesday, to support the Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity project. Employees at Jarrett Bay put together the fundraiser to raise money for the Joy Gaskill Memorial House.
Gaskill was a Jarrett Bay employee and Habitat volunteer. She had started raising money to build a Habitat home, but was killed two years ago in a car accident.
Now her coworkers and friends are hoping to raise the money needed to build a Habitat home in her memory.
“It’s great to see so many people in the community supporting it. We’ve had local businesses coming by 20 and 30 plates at a time, and we completely sold out,” Jarrett Bay President Randy Ramsey said. “So it’s certainly gratifying for us to know that so many people cared about Joy and cared about Habitat for Humanity.”
A location for the home is still being chosen. It costs about $50,000 to build a Habitat for Humanity home.
