The Yankee Spirit, an 80’ Lydia boat designed for commercial purposes, arrived at Jarrett Bay on May 21st, 2010. The Yankee Spirit is owned by Mr. Howard and Jacqueline Dubinett of Colts Neck, New Jersey. The new name upon departure will be True Love. The Dubinetts explained that they have a very special group of friends that love to fish and socialize together and that their current 53’ Viking Yacht did not have enough room to allow them to fish together as they would like. The Yankee Spirit was previously a whale watching vessel home ported in Gloucester, MA. Jeff Fulcher, Jarrett Bay’s Service Manager flew to Boston on March 26th, 2010 to review the scope of work and provide an estimate for the refit to be accomplished. We were extremely happy to receive the job and be able to work with the owners on their dream boat. Work commenced on May 24th, 2010.
Simply put, this vessel has had a major renovation. We removed the old 3406E Caterpillars and installed a pair of new C-18 1,150 hp engines, gears and electronic controls. A new HVAC system has been installed throughout the vessel. New 32KW ONAN EQD generators are installed. New Digital display power distribution panels as well as a new 100 amp shore power system have been installed. New 12 and 24 VDC chargers are installed. A new Imtra Side Power hydraulic thruster is in. It can operate off the port main engine or genset number 2. New hydraulic steering is in. We have installed new Mitsubishi Roll stabilizers powered by a dedicated 13.5KW ONAN EQD generator. The Yankee Spirit is now equipped with AC and DC fluorescent lighting.
The bridge of the vessel received a new custom built settee, Captain’s chairs, electronics, AC/DC power panel, a spiral staircase and a new electronics suite. The windows were lowered to improve visibility and the bridge dodger lowered as well. New Wilson art paneling was installed throughout with new solid teak window trim. New teak and holly sole is being installed as well as a track system head liner.
The main deck has a new head with corner shower, vanity, storage and teak and holly deck sole. The remainder of the main cabin has new quarter sawn golden teak from the deck up to 40”, with new vinyl padded panels covering the remainder of the interior (except the windows). There is new teak and holly sole and a small area forward will have carpeting. The main deck overhead will also be a new track system headliner. There is new LED lighting and switching throughout. All of the old sliding doors are now hinged with new hardware. All the HVAC distribution ducting is insulated & fluted golden teak and holly construction. On the main deck we constructed a closet and custom cabinet to house the new refrigerator and ice machine adjacent to the galley. We constructed a new galley with solid surfacing that has the counter, cabinets, an additional drawer style refrigerator, cook top and convection microwave oven and sink. A custom ”U” shaped settee was added with solid surface table top.
Many other smaller items have been accomplished and are too numerous to cover. The vessel is now nearing completion and will be fishing off the Jersey shore this summer. We hope the Dubinetts will be very happy with their new 80’ Sportfish and we appreciate the opportunity to have been chosen to work with them on this ambitious project. It has been a project of “True Love.”
